Women hold 17 percent of the U.S. Congressional seats. Let’s hope the midterms elections bump that up a bit. So why aren’t there more women in office? Some blame us. One of my brothers said women should vote or run for office. “It’s a Democracy isn’t it ” .
No, it’s patriachy and I’m tired of it. If Ethiopia’s new Cabinet is 50 percent female then what is wrong with our country?
- In the U.S. and for the most part on the entire planet men are in those seats and they don’t want to leave. Most of the winnable seats are occupied by men. In the U.S. redistricting is an issue. Some states redraw the voting lines to put women who are running for office in areas where it’s harder for them to win.
- Women usually don’t run for office until they’re older and their kids are grown. Seen any woman dragging around a bunch of kids on the campaign trail lately? And, if she does run she’ll be criticized for not being a good Mother. How dare she put her career first? Doesn’t seem to be an issue for men running for office. Didn’t he put his career first? I remember my Mother had to take us with her to go vote. Some still have to. I don’t remember seeing too many men going to vote with kids trailing behind them. I don’t remember my father doing that. Women usually can’t run for an office until their kids are grown.
- Men get more play in the media and more funding to run a campaign. All a man has to do is come out and say he’s pro-choice or pro-woman and somehow he’s cool. Don’t you just love it when you see them kissing or holding a baby during a photo op. Oh isn’t that sweet he’s a family man.
- Stereotypes still linger that women are weak on strong issues and too emotional overall. And if they are strong on issues they’re critized as being too harsh or taking jobs away from men. I have heard that statement against women who are in positions of power at work. The other one was that if she was on her period maybe she’s more likely set off a nuclear war. Gender politics don’t just have to do with how men perceive women but, how women see themselves.
I can’t believe how much hate was thrown at Hilliary. They said she was evil. There was focus on how she dressed, and wore her hair. She was too brazen. It was ruthless and endless. She’s a liar, a thief and a traitor. A woman who had experience as the Secretary of State was seen as less capable than a man who was a TV host, racist, sexist and you fill in all the rest of the “isms” blanks. But, she won the popular vote and Trump can’t get over that.
The American people didn’t want you Trump. As for Bernie if he was so concerned about change in America he certainly wasn’t willing to sit it out was he. What about Jill Stein from the Green Party. Put your money on the horse that can win dummies. As for many on the left you deserve every loss you get. If you didn’t want to vote for the “lesser of two evils” then shut your pie hole now.
Overall, men do not want to give up power. I am not just talking about Republicans. White men are really not in the mood for this since they’re feel attacked from all sides. There are too many people of color and too many women trying to kick them out they say. I can’t figure out why they are so worried. Why not just take a vacation. Sit down, pour yourself a cup of coffee or tea or even a glass of wine and take some time off.
Let woman carry the load and handle this mess for awhile. Take a break. Run kids to their after school activities. Dress up and smile handsomely at those government extravaganzas. We know other woman will want you. You’ve done your part. You seem willing to let a woman take care your home, your kids and if she works help spend her money. So what is the problem?
Yes, we are coming after you. We won’t take all your seats. We want 52% of them. The votes won’t go along gender lines all the time but, now you’ll have to share power just as it was meant to be. All we need you to do is stop hogging up all the seats and see what we’ve been putting up with.
